Concept: Good management and control on building shapes and forms, such as forming a sense of order about the outlook of buliding, could be an important step for constructing democratic architecture.

Here is a definition of Democratic Architecture: http://democraticarchitecture.tumblr.com/DA

Theme :multiculturalism.

The marker contains two parts.  For Part A, I would rather  show the aboriginal culture. For Part B, the architectural style tends to be concise and modern, which can express western culture.
I subdivided and smooth part A to make striking difference and contrast with part B, making it easier to understand the meaning of cultural differences.

Details in marker

NO.1  The picture left inspired me to create Geometric glass window. On one hand, the geometric shapes are beautiful ornament for the building. On the other hand,  it can  form light spot and make the interior more fun. ( Ornament must have a function)

                                                                        No.2 Stairs

No.3
  • The round seat,  circle viewing platform and spiral stairs are similar to Otto's design style.
  • The long platform links Part A and Part B provides public space for using. It is not just a bridge links two buliding, the function of it could be changed as people's different demand. So it makes the marker more democratic for the Blacktown citizens.
  • Circle viewing platform is located in a high position, allowing people to view the landscape of Blacktown in each orientation.
  • Round Seat is connected, standing for the aboriginal culture.(Aboriginal people have special celebration which is usually held around the stones).

  • I use Aboriginal dot painting as the textures on the bridge that links to part A and Part B.

EXP2 -- Two short text describing the concepts

    Farshid Moussavi

Farshid Moussavi's design usually have unique forms and the function is not be neglected at the same time. Farshid Moussavi also emphasis the relationship between people and building. In her view, architecture is a part of people's daily life and plays an important role in shaping culture, which means architecture is not isoalted as they can convey information or story to people.

    Frei Otto

Frei Otto's design are distinctive and creative as he is good at designing unusual forms such as tensile structure. His design conveys rhythm and are beyond the boundaries of discipline. This forms not only shows the visible beauty but also conveys Otto's design concept. Optimization of forms, structures and material can be shown in Otto's architecture. He also believes that architecture can be more democratic and open to nature.

    FARSHID MOUSSAVI

    Excess vs minimalism.

    Ornament must have a function.

Sense of order through repetition and symmetry.

Her research looks at identifying instruments that create intelligent and creative forms.

Massavi tends not to borrow from theories external to architecture, instead uses theories that are specifically architectural:

    the diagram,
    landscape,
    blank envelopes,
    tessellation,
    iconography

Architecture needs to produce “novel effects” in order for culture to evolve.

The built environment plays a critical role in the lives of people.

It is not what forms represent but if they function effectively.

    FREI OTTO

Collaborative approach to architecture – between biologists, architects, engineers, philosophers, historians, naturalists, environmentalists.

    Systematic method of invention.

Early adopter of computational form finding.

Optimization of materials, structure and form, i.e. spider webs, soap bubbles, grid shells, tents.

“Architecture is the continuation of landscape.”

    Democratic architecture.

    Temporary architecture.

    More with less.

    EXP 2-- 36 textures

The textures I choose for applying in the marker follows:

    Texture 1

I was inspired by Otto's design which has curved surface and has a feeling of movement and flowing. At the same time, by repeating the curved lines it also can creat a sense of order, which is one of the design concepts of Moussavi.

    Tcxture 2

    Texture 3

A lot of  geometric designs could be seen in Moussavi's Architecture. I created a regular one and an irregular one, both of them can convey the design concept of Moussavi. Meanwhile, they looks totally different so it does not looks boring  when applied in one building.

    EXP TWO -- 18 drawings

    PART 1
12 axonometrics drawings that express the design concept of FARSHID MOUSSAVI and FREI OTTO.

1- FARSHID MOUSSAVI -- Sense of order through repetition and symmetry.

2-FARSHID MOUSSAVI -- It is not what forms represent but if they function effectively.

3-FARSHID MOUSSAVI -- Ornament must have a function

4-FREI OTTO -- Optimization of materials, structure and form

5-FREI OTTO -- Systematic method of invention

    6-FREI OTTO -- Democratic  architecture

PART 2 - Parallel Projection & Electroliquid Aggregation

    Projection 1
FARSHID MOUSSAVI -- Sense of order through repetition and symmetry.
    FREI OTTO -- Temporary architecture

Good management and control on building shapes and forms, such as forming a sense of order about the outlook of building, it could be an important step for constructing democratic architecture.

FREI OTTO -- Optimization of materials, structure and form
FARSHID MOUSSAVI -- It is not what forms represent but if they function effectively.

Unique structure forming on functional foundation not only can be more attractive and creative but also can create more unexpected useful space.

    Projection 3
FREI OTTO -- Systematic method of invention
FARSHID MOUSSAVI -- Ornament must have a function

As ornament in architecture is considered to tend to regular and systematic, the function could be improved and strengthened.
